Wireless control reliability has improved dramatically. Systems like Street Crane Express’s Street Sabre and Tele Radio’s next‑generation PAQ platform use advanced 2.4 GHz or frequency‑hopping technology. Up to 50 cranes can operate simultaneously without interference. Rapid‑charging lithium batteries make round‑the‑clock operations possible.
At Bauma 2025, Tele Radio introduced the PAQ controller, equipped with a companion smartphone app for firmware updates, data synchronisation, and remote diagnostics. This integration of industrial hardware with digital platforms marks a new phase of smart factory connectivity.
Safety in Hazardous Environments
Cable control remains essential in areas where wireless transmission is restricted—such as with flammable materials or in explosive atmospheres. In response, Autec launched its EX‑rated wireless transmitters, including the Curve (AJQ EX), Link (AJN EX), and M‑PRO (AJE EX), designed for ATEX‑certified workplaces needing both safety and mobility.

Its Tri‑Band Technology (870–915 MHz + 2.4 GHz) ensures global compatibility across frequencies, minimizing downtime caused by interference.

Modern cranes depend on responsive motor control—and that means Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs). Originally used on high‑speed Class D and E cranes, VFDs now manage all motorized movements: the hoist, bridge, trolley, and hook.
Welsh manufacturer Invertek Drives reports that its Optidrive series can reduce energy use by up to 40%, thanks to its sensorless vector control and fast communication protocols.
“VFDs are essential for optimising performance, reducing energy consumption, and enhancing productivity,” says Rhydian Welson, Invertek’s Sales and Marketing Director. Invertek’s ongoing expansion aims to meet the worldwide demand—estimated at 80 million motors still operating without VFD control.
Siemens SIMOCRANE: Toward Autonomous, Integrated Systems
The next step in crane automation belongs to Siemens SIMOCRANE Technology Suite. Modular and scalable, the system integrates hardware and software through open architecture for flexibly upgrading components.
The Basic Technology V5.0 optimises motions such as hoist and trolley movement, while modules like Sway Control, Skew Control, and Truck Positioning enhance stability and precision.
For fully automated plants—such as plywood or steel manufacturing lines—Remote Control Operating Systems enable multi‑crane supervision through camera and sensor networks. Built‑in energy management algorithms reduce consumption and monitor wear to extend machine life.
